VI. Operating within the Environment
This section provides detailed instructions on how to perform some of the more common activities of an administrator.

Building a Class
1. Use the add a class button from the Manage Class page
2. Fill out the required fields (sections, class title, class subtitle, introduction)
Note:
The class introduction, typically is used to introduce students to what they will be doing in the environment, and often includes an explanation of the goals for the assignment.
3. Next, to add content to each of the class modules go to Manage Class Standards and select the class you just created.
a. Beneath the list of classes, you now see tabs for Edit Class Default Standards, and Edit Class Section Standards.
b. Under the Edit Class Default Standards tab, expand one of the four standards (Getting Started, finding sources, Evaluating Sources, Writing with Sources) to populate.
c. Add the introduction, learning objects, and assessment pieces (quizzes, and / or essays).
Notes:
-LOs need to be added to ILE before they can be assigned to a class. Quizzes and Essays also need to be added before they can be assigned. Quiz questions are drawn from LOs, so LOs must be added before a quiz can be created and assigned.
-Standards are enabled by default, but can be disabled using the check box.
Editing a Class
Adding Additional Sections
1. To add additional sections to a class, begin at the Manage Class page and hit the Edit Class button
2. Select your class from the list
3. Click the accordion panel Edit Class Sections (below the editor)
4. Hit the Add/Remove Sections button
5. Select additional sections to add or remove and hit done
Note:
To make multiple selections hold down the Ctrl button while making selections
Editing Class Standard Content
1. Begin at the Manage Class Standards page, and select the class to edit
2. To edit standard content for an entire class, use the Edit Class Default Standards panel at the bottom of the list, and select the standard to edit
3. Make changes to the content using the fields provided
Notes:
-Edits can be made to individual sections using the Edit Class Section Standards tab
-Edits to quizzes or essays are made using the Manage Assignments page
Adding Learning Objects
1. Begin at the Manage Learning Objects (LO) page and hit the Create Learning Object button
2. Fill out the required fields (LO title, URL, applicable standards, estimated time to complete, instructions) and hit the Create Learning Objects button
Note:
To make multiple selections hold down the Ctrl button while making selections
3. To add quiz questions or to edit a LO use the Edit Learning Object button.
Editing Learning Objects and Adding Questions to Learning Objects
Edit Learning Objects
1. Begin at the Manage Learning Objects page and hit the Edit Learning Objects button
2. Select the LO to edit or add questions to
3. Edits to the LO can be made here, use the Update Learning Object button to complete the update
Adding Learning Object Questions
1. After selecting the LO from the Manage Learning Objects page hit the Manage Quiz Questions button
2. Hit Start button
3. Add questions and answer selections, being sure to mark at least one correct answer for each question
4. Hit the Add a New Question button to add each additional question
Note:
A blank question is inserted by default for each LO created. Use the Edit Question feature in the drop down menu to update the blank question.
5. After adding desired questions, hit the Next button to review the questions
Note:
Quiz questions are not required for LOs. In instances where no questions are being added, remember to delete the blank question that is automatically added.
6. Hit the Finish button to complete
Adding a Quiz
1. Begin on the Manage Assignments page and hit the Assign New Quizzes button
2. Next, select the class the quiz will be assigned to
Note:
Quizzes can only be assigned to classes that exist and have LOs assigned as the question banks are drawn from the combined question lists for each LO.
3. Select the section(s) the will be assigned to
Note:
To make multiple selections hold down the Ctrl button while making selections
4. Select the standard the quiz will be applied to, and hit the Next button
5. Verify that all LOs intended to be represented through quiz questions are included in the list of LOs included in the quiz and hit the Next button
6. Review the questions in the question bank and require or exclude questions as necessary. When finished hit the Next button
7. Fill out the required fields (assignment name, directions, number of questions, number of attempts, start date, start time, end date, end time, send notification email, send quiz results). Hit the Finish button when complete.
Notes:
Sending notification emails will send an email to everyone enrolled in the class when the assignment opens. Sending Quiz Results will send an email listing all attempts at a quiz, indicating correct and incorrect answer choices, as well as the highest grade received for all attempts upon closing of the assignment.

Editing a Quiz
1. Begin on the Manage Assignments page and hit the Edit Quiz Assignment button
2. Next, select the quiz to edit
3. Here, you can modify the sections and standard the quiz is applied to, and continue on to the LO quiz questions using the Next button. You can also use the Go to Details button to edit the assignment name, directions, number of questions, number of attempts, start date, start time, end date, end time, send notification email, and send quiz results.
Editing a Quiz: excluding or requiring questions
1. Continuing from Edit a Quiz directions above, hit the Next button
2. Here, all quiz questions from the assigned LOs are listed. Require and exclude options are available for each question. When finished hit the Next button.
Note:
If questions are added or deleted to/ from a LO after a quiz using the LO has been assigned, the quiz will not reflect the change. In such instances, it is best to assign a new quiz.
3. Here, details of the quiz are modifiable. When complete, hit the Finish button
Adding an Essay
1. Begin on the Manage Assignments page, hit the Assign New Essay button and select the class the essay will be assigned to
2. Next, select the applicable sections and standard, then hit the Next key
Note:
To make multiple selections hold down the Ctrl button while making selections
3. Fill out the required fields (assignment name, directions, start date, start time, end date, end time, and send notification email). Hit the Finish button when complete.
Editing an Essay
1. Begin on the Manage Assignments page and hit the Edit Essay Assignment button
2. Next, select the essay to edit
3. Here, you can modify the selections and standard the essay is applied to
4. Use the Next button to edit essay details (assignment name, directions, start date, start time, end date, end time, and send notification email). Hit the Finish button when complete.
View Statistics
1. Begin on the Statistics page
2. Enter a Network ID or leave blank to generate statistics on all users(of the user type selected)
3. Adjust account type (if necessary)
4. Set start and end dates and hit the Search button
Create Evaluations
1. Begin on the Evaluations page and hit the Create Evaluation button
2. Select the class and section to edit, then hit the Next button
3. Edit the introduction if desired, and hit the Next button
4. Use the drop down menu to select the question to edit
5. When finished hit the Finish button
Edit Evaluations
1. Begin on the Evaluations page and hit the Create Evaluation button
2. Select the class and section to edit, then hit the Next button
3. Edit the introduction if desired, and hit the Next button
4. Use the drop down menu to select the question to edit
5. When finished hit the Finish button
